The complexity of tracking houses, boats, cars, jewelry, collections and other physical assets can be frustrating and overwhelming. The EstateSpace vision was clear: to create a mobile experience that would radically simplify estate asset management by bringing under a single platform all the tools that individuals, family officers, and the marketplace of service providers need.
Behind EstateSpace’s promise of transformative simplicity, however, lay a very complex set of problems. The world of estate asset management, and the variety of people who could use the service, encompasses numerous use cases. As a start-up, it was crucial to identify and prioritize the features and functionality that would drive customer engagement and growth. Otherwise, there was a risk of getting lost in features and failing to deliver a service that would be embraced by the market. To achieve this outcome, we worked in three areas:
With such a compelling vision, it can be tempting to try to do everything. However, boiling the ocean is never a winning strategy. Cantina knew from prior experience working with start-ups that it was essential to prioritize and sequence. At the same time, speed to market for a start-up is always essential.
Because of our long history designing and developing award-winning apps in the financial services industry, we were able to accelerate the path from concept to product while avoiding common pitfalls. We began by helping EstateSpace articulate its product strategy, and then we homed in on the core functionality needed for initial release.
The initial release was key. It would help us get real-world feedback to validate the product experience before overcommitting to a larger development effort. This approach reduced risk from assumptions, which ultimately avoided costly lessons from the market.
With a clear understanding of the core functionality, Cantina designed a series of user flows, wireframes, and high fidelity mockups. These were used to validate various approaches and prove both desirability and feasibility.
In parallel, Cantina worked with EstateSpace’s development team to prototype the most promising concepts and demonstrate how they could be used to acquire new and retain old customers. We iteratively tested directional designs with users, refining them based on real-world testing results.
Cantina created mobile apps for Android and iOS that enable individuals, family offices, and service providers who manage estates to easily gather information about their assets. These include both quantitative and qualitative data plus photos and other documentary evidence. Through ten interrelated services, the app transforms this data into a simple, secure solution that spans the entire asset management lifecycle, including:
EstateSpace needed a new, compelling mobile experience to drive growth and customer engagement. In roughly 16 weeks, we released a product which validated the company’s digital strategy, and which resulted in new sales and additional rounds of funding. Our work was awarded a 2022 W3 Silver Award for best workflow and productivity app.
